Strangler Fig, Vally of the Giants

Although its presence kills the tree upon which it grows, strangler figs are often known a Keystone Species. This is due to the fact that they often fruit throughout the entire year. It makes them very valuable members of the forest community as far as fruit eating animals are concerned. In the rainforest as indeed for any system man made or natural, everything is linked through the food chain which it is a part of.
